How does that not answer your question? You run mbbsemu with commands and i answers connection attempts from rlogin clients. If I try to connect to tha server from outside the machine it is running on, it refuses to connect. If

When you say you try to remotely connect and it refuses, you mean the connection is refused outright, or it times out or what?

Is it your firewall or ISP? Are you connecting from an outside ISP that even allows Rlogin?

Is it even really necessary? Whats wrong with just normal Telnet? My board and many others have sat on port 23 for years. Not too many BBS callers going out of their way to use Rlogin... Isn't that just a supercoolhacker Linux thing?

Those are my questions at the moment...

I'm willing to bet nobody has the exact same setup as you.

Does anyone have mbbsemu set up on one system, with their bbs on another
and still be able to connect? Through the internal network. My
OPNSense firewall shouldn't be involved. Windows could be, but I've got rules for the app (public and private) and the ports inbound
(6513-6518). I can only connect internally if it's from and to IP
address specified in the config (eg. 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.8). I can't connect from 192.168.0.11 to 192.168.0.8 even if the config has that IP specified. I'm not responding to Gamgee, I'm responding to the thread.
So, please quit taking this personally.

No. I don't have any of this setup, but to me what it sounds like is that you probably shouldn't be using '127.0.0.1' or '192.168.0.8' in your configuration at all, as those are local addresses inside of your LAN.

I don't know what the config looks like, but you should probably be using something like '0.0.0.0' for IPv4, or "::" for IPv6. Again, I'm not sure what your config looks like, but maybe even leaving those options blank would do the trick, at least better than using local IP addresses.

The Rlogin.RemoteIP line is the IP you want to accept connections FROM. So you wouldn't use the local IP of the machine it's hosted on, which is what I'm assuming is 192.168.0.8 is, unless you only wanted connections from that IP, which is why I think you're only getting connections accepted from that machine as near as I can tell from what you're trying to say. I dunno, it's a little hard to parse it all. I'd have to go through this thread again just to see if that's what you're saying.

Just in case you don't already know, if you make a change to the appsettings.json file for the IP line you'd need to restart MBBSEmu for changes to take effect. I know that's obvious, but I see a lot of people that don't know you generally need to restart a program after making changes to a settings file.

I've got it working no problem for DoorParty. I have it running in a different VM than DoorParty on a separate IP with the Rlogin.RemoteIP line set to the DoorParty VM's IP, and it works fine. No firewall rules or anything needed adjusting.

Lemme go through the thread again and I'll edit this message before sending it out just to make sure.
